What Actually Affects Your Custom Tote Bag Unit Price
Bag quotes depend on the written specification: material and weight, dimensions, construction, handles, print, quantity, packing and shipping basis. This guide shows what to define so suppliers can quote the same order for a fair comparison.
Quotes for bags described as "the same" can differ when important specifications or included charges are not aligned. Before comparing unit prices, confirm material and weight, finished size, construction, print scope, quantity split, packing and delivery term.
1. Material and weight
Material and weight affect the specification and quotation. The current non-woven product page lists 80–120 gsm options, while the cotton and canvas page lists its own fabric weights. A heavier or different material does not have one universal price effect: the exact amount depends on size, construction, quantity and the selected style, so request a quote against the complete specification.
2. Size and construction
Finished width, height and gusset determine how much material is specified. Pockets, zippers, linings and additional seams change the construction details. Include these features in every RFQ and compare quotations only when the same features are included.
3. Print colours and method
| Print method | Best for | Relative cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 colour silk-screen | Confirm the listed style and print area | Included on eligible product-page styles |
| Additional print colours | State colours, sides and print area | Confirm the applicable charge in the quote |
| Heat transfer / full colour | Send artwork and required print coverage | Request a style- and quantity-specific quote |
| Other print or finishing methods | Describe the result and reference sample | Confirm availability and price for the exact bag |
Print cost depends on the method, number of colours, print sides and coverage. If you are considering a simplified design, ask for alternative quotations and approve the artwork or sample before production; do not assume the visual result will be unchanged.
4. Handles
Specify handle material, length, attachment method and any reinforcement required. These choices affect the construction being quoted; the suitable option depends on the bag design and intended use, so compare the same handle specification across suppliers.
5. Lamination and finishing
If you want lamination or another finish, state the desired surface and coverage and ask the supplier to confirm availability and any price difference for the selected bag. Also specify piping, eyelets, reinforcement or other construction details rather than assuming they are included.
6. Quantity tier
The product pages publish quantity tiers for listed styles, but a discount percentage should not be assumed across different products or specifications. Request the same bag and print specification at the relevant quantity tiers, and confirm the minimum for each style, colour and size.
7. Packaging and delivery terms
State the packing method, labels, barcodes and any individual packaging requirement. Product-page prices are shown on an FOB Guangzhou basis and exclude freight, insurance and import duties/taxes. For a delivered-cost comparison, provide the destination and request the relevant CIF or DDP quotation.
Build a like-for-like quote comparison
| Quote field | Keep consistent across suppliers |
|---|---|
| Bag specification | Material, weight, finished dimensions, gusset and construction |
| Printing and finish | Method, colours, sides, print area and any extra finish |
| Quantity | Pieces by style, colour and size, plus the tier being quoted |
| Packing and delivery | Carton/individual packing, destination and FOB/CIF/DDP basis |
| Included charges | State what is included and what is quoted separately |
Change one field at a time when you want to understand its price effect. A quote comparison is meaningful only when the scope and delivery basis are clear.
How to reduce cost without hurting quality
- Simplify artwork to 1–2 colours.
- Standardise one size and one material, then vary only the colour.
- Order at the next tier if sell-through is predictable (1,000 instead of 500).
- Use bulk packing instead of individual poly bags.
- Ask whether an existing colour option meets the brief before requesting a custom colour.
- Compare shipping options for your destination and volume; routes, schedules and costs are order-specific.
Why quotes differ between suppliers
When quotations differ, compare the material weight, dimensions, print colours included, handles, packing, delivery term and any separate charges. Ask each supplier to state assumptions in writing; request a sample when you need to approve the material, construction or print before a bulk order.
