Private Label & OEM Bag Manufacturing: How It Works
OEM production follows a buyer's design; ODM starts from a supplier's existing design that the buyer may adapt; private label means selling a selected product under the buyer's brand. These models can overlap, so confirm design scope, MOQ, costs and timing in the written quotation.
If you source bags for your own brand, OEM, ODM and private label describe different ways to define the product and its branding. The terms are not used identically by every supplier. Ask each factory to state what it will design, what you provide, which samples or tooling are included, and how the quoted price is calculated.

What each model costs you
The label alone does not determine the final cost or launch date. Compare written quotations that use the same bag dimensions, material and weight, construction, quantity split, artwork, packaging and delivery term. OEM may require more buyer input; ODM may reduce original design work only when a suitable existing style is available. Private-label pricing still depends on the selected bag and requested branding, so do not assume it is always the lowest-cost or fastest route.
Ask the supplier to separate any sample, tooling, print setup, label, tag and packaging charges from the unit price. Confirm whether the quoted unit price covers the finished specification, and record any items that remain optional or are priced separately.
Branding options you can add
Branding possibilities depend on the bag material, construction, artwork, quantity and supplier capability. EcoBag's product pages list 1–2 colour silk-screen printing for eligible styles; other print methods or add-ons must be checked for the specific bag and order.
- Send the logo file, print colours, size and exact placement.
- Ask whether labels, hang tags, care information or branded packaging are available for the selected construction.
- Request separate prices and minimums for each add-on instead of assuming the bag MOQ applies to them.
- Confirm artwork approval, sample scope and any setup charge before production.
MOQ for branding elements
The published production minimum is 500 pcs per style, per colour and per size. Branding elements may have separate minimums or setup charges; these are not assumed in the bag MOQ. Ask for the minimum and price for each requested label, tag, print method and packaging component, and make sure the quotation shows the quantity basis.

- Size, material and weight (e.g. 12 oz natural canvas, 38 × 42 cm)
- Handles and construction details (gusset, inner pocket, zipper)
- Print artwork and placement, plus label and tag artwork
- Packaging requirements
- Quantity by style, colour and size; mark whether bags are blank or branded
- Destination, requested shipping term and target date for stock arrival
Timeline: confirm each stage for your order

Do not treat sample-preparation or production days as a door-to-door delivery promise. Ask the supplier to state the schedule assumptions and the shipping estimate separately for your product, destination and selected trade term.
Put design rights and exclusivity in writing
Do not assume that paying for a sample or supplying artwork automatically settles ownership, reuse or exclusivity. Before placing an order, write down who owns the artwork, patterns or tooling; how the supplier may use the design; whether a style is exclusive; and the markets, term and quantities covered. If these rights are commercially important, have the agreement reviewed by a qualified adviser in the relevant jurisdiction.
What to look for in an OEM partner
- Can the supplier quote the exact material, dimensions, weight and construction you specify?
- What sample can be prepared, what does it include and when does the sample timeline begin?
- Which printing, label, tag and packaging options are available for this bag and quantity?
- How will the approved sample and production specification be referenced for repeat orders?
- What inspection method, tolerances and evidence can be agreed in the purchase documents?
