From PO to Delivery: Custom Bag Lead Times Explained
Sample in 3–7 working days, bulk in 15–25 — plus shipping times, peak-season planning and what delays orders.
Lead time is the difference between hitting a launch date and missing it. Here is the honest, step-by-step timeline for a custom bag order from Guangzhou — and how to plan backwards from your deadline.

A realistic example
You need 3,000 printed cotton totes delivered to a US warehouse for a March launch. Working backwards:
- Production + QC: 25 working days ≈ 5 weeks
- Sea freight door-to-door: about 35 days ≈ 5 weeks
- Buffer for revisions: 1 week
Total: about 11 weeks. So the order should be confirmed in early December, not February. Most missed deadlines are planning errors, not production errors.
What actually delays orders
- Artwork arrives late or keeps changing. Every change after sampling costs a new print set-up.
- Undefined specs. "Medium cotton bag" is not a spec — we need size, weight, handle type and print positions.
- Slow sample approval. The clock on bulk production starts after you approve in writing.
- Deposit delay. Materials are bought only after the deposit clears.
- Custom fabric dyeing. A custom Pantone fabric colour can add 7–15 days to the material lead time.
- Peak season. August–November (pre-holiday and pre-Chinese New Year) is the busiest window of the year; add 5–10 working days.
- Chinese New Year. Factories close for 2–4 weeks, and output ramps slowly for two weeks afterwards. Plan orders around it — see below.
Planning around Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year falls in late January or February. In practice, capacity tightens from early December and normalises by mid-March. If your product launches in Q1, place your order before mid-November, or plan to ship by air.
How to compress the timeline
- Approve a stock-colour sample instead of a custom-dyed one.
- Use air or express for the first batch and sea for the reorder.
- Prepare artwork before quoting — a print-ready file saves days.
- Approve fast. Our photo report before shipping means you do not need to wait for the goods to arrive to check them.
- Order in the quiet season (March–July) for the best capacity and the smoothest schedule.
Working days, not calendar days
All our production times are quoted in working days, excluding Sundays and Chinese public holidays. A "20 working day" order is about four calendar weeks. We give you a written production schedule when the deposit is paid, and we flag any risk to that date as soon as we see it.
